The Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) Mission

The Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission is a four spacecraft mission designed to solve the mysteries of the reconnection process in the Earth's magnetotail and at its magnetopause. The spacecraft are being developed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center as part of the Solar Terrestrial Probe program. The instrument suite Solving Magnetospheric Acceleration Reconnection and Turbulence (SMART) is led by Dr. James L Burch of Southwest Research Institute. UCLA's role is to provide the analogue fluxgate magnetometer and to assist with the development of the digital fluxgate magnetometer.
